The debt was piling up.

She had to find a job and soon.

Ironically it wasn't too far from the convenience store. But such was the way of life--beggars can't be choosers.

The music was too loud to even hear herself think, but maybe that's what she needed.

It was hard to recognize the same gentle lady in her new dress. Her hair she had messily cut short, tucked back a headband, and a wrapped a cloth taught around her torso.

In fact, few could recognize the lady at all.

He was the DJ that people came back for in the night club, throwing himself into every song.

"The beat of my heart, and the soul of rock! Guys get ready 'cause it's curfew and mama saying, 'lights out!'. Y'hear?!"

They roared back, "It's lights out and we all getting down tonight!"

At with that she slammed her fist down on the power switch, the lights cutting abruptly and the music snapping.

It was quiet, still, the air thick and heavy with sweat and perfume and more importantly, anticipation.

It started out slowly.

"Can you hear it, y'all?"

The crowd whispered back their approval.

"I said--" and he turned up the beat, "CAN YOU HEAR IT?"

UNTZ UNTZ UNTZ

The enthusiastic screams as the crowd's fervor fed itself like a positive feedback loop, the air practically buzzing with anticipation as the lights danced into action, swinging this way and that as they sparkled and gleamed.

The throng of people writhed in dance, so full of the careless vigor and foolishness only possessed in youth.

He took in the sight for a moment, feeling immensely satisfied before tearing his eyes away. It was Time to get fancy.

Scratching up the discs, he threw himself into the swing of things.

There was an odd fatigue though that seemed to haunt him, but despite difficulties he was thriving.

He would survive.

For he was a Canterbury, and the successor to uphold the Canterbury line.

But as he bid farewell to his coworkers, passing up on drinks for what had to be the hundreth Time now.

"Man, you seeing a girl or something? Ain't no one who be passing up drinks like that yo'. I'll bet it's a girl."

He had laughed it off and headed back.

Change the bag, change the sheets, clean the room, sweep the floor, changes the bag, wash Ken, change his clothes, take out the dirty laundry, the list was endless.

Twice he had to pause while working. The strange fatigue taking hold.

Maybe he should've taken their offer to drink, underage though he may be. Just once wouldn't hurt.

But then he looked at Ken and held on tight to that pale hand.

"No." He wouldn't leave Ken behind.

The next day as he was heading to work, he saw him. The same disgusting man. He kept his head low in his hoodie, thankful that it obscured his features as he passed by.

"Lil' slut was good. Shouldn't have thrown her out so soon! You should see how fast the vids are selling out, we should go find her again and show her a good Time again 'eh? I'm sure she's missed us." he laughed to his company.

He almost froze in his tracks but forced himself on.
